Registered Physiotherapist
Richard graduated from Guy’s Hospital School of Physiotherapy (London, UK) in 1992. After emigrating to Canada, he completed his Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) in 1997. Richard worked in orthopedics and in Occupational Health at London Health Sciences Centre, Canada from 1993 till 2018.
Richard has been active in research since 2007 and has authored or coauthored over a dozen papers primarily exploring the clinical utility of MDT. He has also coauthored various book chapters and published letters.
Since 2003 Richard has been a member of the McKenzie Institute teaching faculty and has been teaching healthcare professionals throughout Canada and Internationally. In 2005 Richard was appointed onto the Institute’s International Education Council. He has led numerous educational projects, including the development of online learning courses and live-course educational materials which are used for teaching healthcare professionals in over 40 countries throughout the world.
In 2018 Richard was appointed as the Director of Education for the McKenzie Institute International, and the Institute’s Diploma Coordinator.
Clinically, Richard has over 25 years of experience working with all varieties of musculoskeletal issues; from work related to sports related injuries, for people with either spinal or extremity injuries, acute and chronic. He exclusively uses the McKenzie System of MDT to categorise each person’s specific presentation and target the intervention to match the individual. His approach focuses on providing interventions that people can use to self-treat their own problems and decrease their future reliance on healthcare professionals.
