Headaches

Headaches are a complex and at times debilitating condition.Source of headaches can be concussions, blood pressure fluctuations, stress, medication side-effects, vision problems, neurological issues, and vascular issues. However, a commonly neglected origin of headaches is problems in the neck spine. As a matter of fact, a considerable number of headaches and migraines are of spinal origin from the neck. This type of headaches are called Cervicogenic headaches and can be easily treated through proper mechanical therapy. At AHA Physio, It takes us 2-3 sessions to check whether or not your headache is originating from the neck spine. The most appropriate time to book an appointment with us is when the headache/migraine symptoms are present.

Specialty Treatments

Our practitioners are equipped with a variety of treatment strategies to help you get better and stay healthy after you’ve finished your treatment with us. In particular, our clinic proudly offers specialty services of McKenzie-MDT Method, Contemporary Medical Acupuncture, and Dry-Needling to help you get better.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a treatment that involves the insertion of sterile and disposable needles into specific muscles. Dry needling is also called myofascial trigger point needling, Intramuscular stimulation and intramuscular manual therapy. Dry needling is different from acupuncture and is based on western medicine principles to treat myofascial pain. When performed properly, dry needling will generate a muscle twitch or gentle cramp, which has an influence on the nervous system by altering muscle tension. Dry needling is often used to help relax tight muscles by releasing trigger points and reduce pain. It is particularly used in treating patients with chronic pain problems such as Fibromyalgia.

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture, also known as Neurofunctional Acupuncture is a precise peripheral nerve stimulation technique, in which fine sterile acupuncture needles are inserted into anatomically defined neurofunctional sites, and stimulated manually or with electricity for the therapeutic purpose of modulating abnormal activity of the nervous system and/or the endocrine, exocrine and immune systems. It is used in pain syndromes, functional problems, and any diseases in which the above-mentioned modulatory mechanisms are available. Neuromodulation occurs through neurological and neurohumoral mechanisms at multiple levels, namely: peripheral nerves, spinal cord, brain stem, brain and cerebellum.

McKenzie-MDT Method

In our clinic the primary approach for treating patients is the McKenzie Method of “Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy” (MDT). The MDT is an internationally recognized method of assessment and treatment for spinal and extremity pain developed by New Zealand Physiotherapist Robin McKenzie. It has been widely taught and used all over the world for more than 30 years.
